Tibetan bells Hudson Bay Cabin

History

Originally Vidette Lake was in the proximity of the halfway point on the Hudson’s Bay Brigade Trail between Fort Kamloops and 100 Mile House. One of the cabins at the Resort is still known as the Hudson Bay Cabin as the timbers of the original structure have been incorporated into the newer building. Deadman Valley and Deadman River were so named in 1817, after a French fur trader Charette, travelling the trail, was murdered during an argument about where to set up camp.

In 1913 The Meadow Resort was the site of the Vidette Gold Mine, which at its peak became a thriving community of several thousand.  The Vidette Resort’s lodge was formerly the gold mine superintendent’s home which burned down in 1936, four years before the mine ceased operation. The lodge has since been completely rebuilt.
